Juanita Mildred Southworth was born in Depew, OK. on April 22, 1924 to Merrill and Nona Southworth. She was the oldest of five children; Three girls-- Juanita, Alice, and Maxine and two boys-- Don and Robert. Her father worked in the oil fields in Oklahoma and later in Chase, Kansas. Both her parents and all four siblings have preceded her in death.

Juanita attended High School in Chase, Kansas and later in Blair Business College in Salina. While living in Chase, she met the love of her life, Berta Dee Hughes. Dee had joined the U.S. Army, and while he was on furlough, they were married December 1, 1942. After his discharge, they moved to Denver, Colorado.

Dee and Juanita both worked for Gates Rubber Co. in Denver. Dee was safety Fire Chief and Juanita was an Administrative Secretary. Due to severe arthritis, Dee took early retirement and moved to Phoenix, Arizona for health reasons. Juanita later retired and joined him. They lived in Phoenix until Dee's death in October 2002.

Since Juanita had no family in Arizona, in 2007 she chose to move to Ohio to be close to her Sister-in-Law, Naomi Kennedy and family. She lived in the Earl Maag Senior Center in Marrow. She was always an active participant in all the activities and enjoyed and appreciated the love and concern of the management staff and residents. She was a devout Christian and faithfully attended Morrow Church of the Nazarene. She will be missed by all.
